Oliver Bennett, born Feb 4, 1935 at Sharon Hospital, died peacefully on
August 31, 2018 at Candlewood Valley Nursing Home, New Milford, CT
after a long illness. He was the son of Charles Russell Bennett and
Augusta Jenks Bennett. He worked at the Kimberly Clark paper mill in New
Milford for 32 years He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean conflict in Korea and was discharged in New London, CT. Mr. Bennett served twice
as the post Commander at the VFW in New Milford where he led their
color guard in many parades and ceremonies for many years. He played for
many of the local Softball teams in the area. He loved the outdoors;
gardening, hunting and fishing were among a few of his favorites. He was
predeceased by his wife Miriam Scott Bennett and 2 sisters Salle of
Millerton, New York and June of New Hampshire. He is survived by his
sister Flora Bennett of North Carolina, his son Edward Bennett and his
wife Cynthia from Bridgewater, CT, daughter Terri Stephan and her
husband John from Miami, FL, and son Christopher Bennett; grandchildren
William Bennett, Eli Stephan, Kamhal Stephan, Katie Stephan;
great-grandchildren Trevor, Seann, and Jeremy Bennett. A graveside
ceremony will take place at a later date at the Center Cemetery in
Bridgewater, CT. Donations may be made to the VFW Post 1672, 11 Avery
Road, New Milford, CT 06776
