George "Sonny" Isaac Peet, 94, of New Milford passed on Saturday July 13, 2024 with his son, Gregory, by his side. He was born on October 18, 1929, in New Milford, the son of the late Ike and Julia Peet .
He served in the US Navy from 1948 to 1952, on the U.S.S Franklin D. Roosevelt as a radar operator. When he came back home, George worked for Lou Day as a tree climber before he began his long career with the Town of New Milford. George worked for the Town Highway Department for 34 years, from 1958 to 1990, retiring as an assistant foreman. For years after his retirement, many tried to persuade him to come back to work.
George was a devoted husband, a great provider and an excellent father. He was very well liked by his community and will be deeply missed by those that knew him.
He was predeceased by his wife, Gloria and his sister, Pat Lynch. George leaves his son, Gregory Peet of New Milford and Kim (Jajer) Brasser who was like a daughter to him and many extended friends and family alike.
Services are private and in care of Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street New Milford, CT.
